Oil & Natural Gas 4 miles of 20� Steel and 16� HDPE Waterline > Projects > 4 miles of 20� Steel and 16� HDPE Waterline IKPS installed approximately 6,855 LF of 12� HDPE DR9 in conjunction with either a 20� Steel or 12� Steel pipeline into one common ditch for both pipelines. The project included a 16� cased bore and a stream crossing. The waterline tied into an existing 20� HDPE waterline that the client was using for conveying fresh water to well pads for fracking. Since most of this line was placed into a common ditch with a steel pipeline, we excavated a wider ditch than usual. HDPE lays differently than steel, so the pace of installation was significantly different. In addition, there were two winch hills, and the tie-in to the existing waterline was in a difficult location due to the 20� steel gas crossing at the same location.
